Flow measurement in the pneumatic feed line.
Measuring limestone powder in the VW - powerplant
In the VW Powerplant in Wolfsburg limestone powder is use for the fluegas desulfurization. The limestone powder is stored in silos and dosed via a rotary valve into the pneumatic feed line. The flow rate of the limestone powder was measured by an impact meter. Due to the moving parts and the fact, that the material sticks to the impact plate, this system requires continously maintenance. Looking for a safe and maintenance free measuring method, the microwave sensor "MIC" from Hense Wägetechnik was tested directly in the pneumatic feed line. The MIC sensor is simply clamped to the conveying pipe - the microwave field detects only moving particles. The electronic unit displays the actual flow ( kg/h ) and the total flow ( kg ). The calibration of the microwave system was first done in relation to the impact meter - later on the unit was calibrated in relation
to the inventory of the storage silo. At the end of the test 4 ea MIC had been installed in the plant.
