Sample preparation of cannabis plants for efficient extraction A video on how you can fast and easily prepare cannabis plants for an efficient extraction of cannabis oil and receive a homogeneous sample.
Sample preparation of cannabis plants for efficient extraction
A video on how you can fast and easily prepare cannabis plants for an efficient extraction of cannabis oil and receive a homogeneous sample. Cannabis has been used as a medicine in various cultures for thousands of years, for example as marijuana or as hashish. Today Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are particularly isolated and researched from the multitude of active substances contained in the plant (in addition to other cannabinoids and terpenes) as pharmacologically effective components. The cannabis active ingredients are used therapeutically in particular * as pain reliever * for appetite stimulation * anti-inflammatory * antispasmodic Supercritical CO2 Extraction The most common method to extract the active ingredients from the cannabis plant is supercritical CO2 extraction. At above 31°C and with high pressure the CO2 gets into the "supercritical" state. It now acts as a solvent. It is passed through a chamber containing the plant material. The CO2 has still the density of a liquid, but can fill the entire chamber like a gas. This is ideal for extraction as it does

Quality control of nuts
Quality control of nuts
Distributors as well as consumer have a great interest in their products meeting quality standards. For chemical analysis and quality control is a diligent sample preparation as a prerequisite for a fine analysis essential, in order to observe the predefined critical values and tolerance values. Perfectly suitable for the comminution of nuts are the FRITSCH Cutting Mills. Consumer protection Food inspections concentrate on verifying harmful substances like toxins, heavy metals and non-permitted pesticides. The consumers trust that top limits of harmful substances are not exceeded and therefore contaminated products not sold. Nuts are considered a problematic product in food inspections since the shell gives no clue about whether the core has the adequate quality. The inside may contain fungal spores or toxins which simply can not be perceived from the outside. With defined methods, samples may be tested for their safety. Research and development in chemical analysis

Comminution of Nuts Generation of representative samples
Comminution of Nuts
Generation of representative samples Detailed sample preparation of nuts according to regulation (EG) no. 401/2006 with tips, approaches and photos of the individual steps With the REGULATION (EG) no. 401/2006 of the COMMISSION of 23rd February 2006 binding standards for sampling procedures and analysis methods for the official testing of the mycotoxin content of food stuffs for example nuts was established. The task in the laboratory is as follows: „Each laboratory sample is to be prepared with a verifiable procedure which guarantees a complete homogenisation, ground finely and meticulously mixed. “ The regulation allows two means: 1. The nuts in the shell may be peeled and the aflatoxin content is to be determined for the edible share. This might be still feasible for peanuts. With walnuts, filberts or almonds this is very problematic though. 2. The other possibility is to use the nuts „inside the shell“ for the sample preparation. The task: 10 kg peanuts, walnuts, filberts, Brazil nuts

Cutting Power XL for High Sample Throughput The new SM 400 XL RETSCH, a model for specific requirements
Cutting Power XL for High Sample Throughput
The new SM 400 XL RETSCH, a model for specific requirements This mill is suitable for primary cutting of large sample pieces measuring up to 170 x 220 mm, but can also achieve the required final fineness in one step, depending on the application. The grinding chamber volume of 7.5 l and the large surface of the bottom sieves (240 x 240 mm) allow for complete homogenization even of large sample volumes in one working run. Hence, the sample throughput is considerably higher than that of smaller models. Thanks to the optional cyclone-suction combination, the SM 400 XL is also suitable for grinding heat-sensitive materials. This tool not only improves material discharge but also provides a cooling effect thanks to the air jet. The fold-back hopper and removable bottom sieves ensure quick and easy cleaning of the mill. In addition to the SM 400 Xl retsch offer three cutting mill types for different requirements: from the budget-priced basic model and universally suitable standard model to the heavy-duty mill with RES technology. Benefits

Foodstuff Production A culture of contradictions?
Foodstuff Production
A culture of contradictions? Again and again consumers are confronted with scandals in the foodstuff industry. The latest case is the Fipronil egg scandal in the laying hen farming in the Netherlands and in Lower Saxony (Germany). What actually do foodstuff producers and marketers do to avoid such cases? A lot, if you believe the rising costs in the area of modern foodstuff analysis. So during the last decades, always newer and more sophisticated processes will be and were developed with the most sensitive detection thresholds (ELISA, PCR or the mycotoxin analysis) for quality control, in order to lower the number or even eliminate such scandals and the potential danger for consumers. So now, in the context of these analytical processes again and again, methods for sample preparation of the most diverse matrixes were developed. Because especially food- stuffs and the raw materials, respectively convenience products are often composed clearly more heterogeneous like all other substance groups. Especially

Straw, hay, dried plants, herbal teas - are mostly very bulk
Straw, hay, dried plants, herbal teas - are mostly very bulk
Straw, hay, dried plants; herbal teas are mostly very bulky samples. An average shopping bag contains 300 g straw or expressed like this: 100 g of uncomminuted straw take up the space of 1 to 2 litres. These materials are very voluminous. For the comminution only a cutting mill with a high rotor speed can be considered. So the choice is between the Cutting mill PULVERISETTE 15 and the Universal Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 19. The reasonably priced Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 15 is to be recommended if: • only a few samples per week are to be comminuted • the sample amount is small • the linear expansion has been reduced via chaffing for example • if a low carry over of sample material to the next sample is tolerable • more time for cleaning is available Are the recommendations in regards to cleaning and expenditure of time higher though, the Universal Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 19 is implicitly to be recommended. Extremely positive effects
