Dust monitoring with ProSens on clean gas side
Exhaust gas cleaning in a pneumatic conveyor system Application An international mining company extracts minerals under ground for the fabrication of fertilizers. For the long term improvement and safety of the structure stability fillings and binders (dry bulks) with defined recipes are injected locally into former mining cavities. These materials are delivered above ground, stored in silos and afterwards transported in a closed-pipe pneumatic conveying system to storage silos below ground. There the fillings and binders are mixed with a salt solution, pumped to the cavities and eventually harden. The silos used for the intermediate storage are under negative pressure for safety reasons. They are equipped with a silo vent filter (main filter) and a downstream security filter (secondary filter). This assures the air purity according to legal regulations, which is measured constantly after the security filter. When a specified limit value is reached, an alarm should be transmitted to the control room. Process

HDPV2 Gate Handling Dry, Colored Pigment
HDPV2 Gate Handling Dry, Colored Pigment
Special slide gates were required for this application. Because of the solvent nature of vapors created in the mix tank below, it was unacceptable for the sourced valve to feature silicone rubber seals. In addition, all switches and solenoids had to be rated for hazardous duty (NEMA 7/9). The Vortex HDPV2 Gate met each of these requirements. The gate’s unique “lifting” action of the blade seating into a top-mounted o-ring offers many advantages over traditional knife gate valves that pack and jam material into an end seal. A Class II / Div. 1 pre-wired terminal box was also provided to meet the client’s hazardous duty standards. Two years after installation, one of the gates was handling red pigment when it experienced a slight blade sticking problem. To solve the issue, Vortex supplied quick exhaust valves that were installed on the gate’s air cylinder actuator to increase the speed of the gate’s opening stroke.

Research shows: Especially high-priced salt contain plastic
Residues of packaging waste found in sea salts On behalf of the NDR-consumer magazine “Markt”, Scientists at the Institute for Biology and Chemistry of the Sea at the University of Oldenburg have examined samples of the most popular Fleur de Sel brands. The results are concerning. After English scientists were able to prove the contamination of sea salts by microplastics last year (see article dated 10.08.2017), the NDR turned its attention now to the analysis of different varieties of Fleur de Sel and compared them with conventional sea salts. Fleur de Sel is considered as the noblest and most expensive sea salt, because it is skimmed by hand from the water surface. All the more frightening are the results of the current study for consumers: The content of microplastics in all samples was between 130 and 1,800 micrograms per kilogram. In one case, plastic fibers were even visible to the bare eye. In the conventional sea salts tested, ”only” 14 to 59 micrograms were found. The residues found are

A faster and less labor-intensive freeze drying process that produces loose and free-flowing powder at low temperatures and low pressures, all in one vessel. That is what Dr. Ir. Kay Imole, process technologist and researcher at Hosokawa Micron in the Netherlands, will be speaking about at the upcoming Lyotalk conferences in Amsterdam and Dublin. With a background in mechanical engineering, Dr. Imole’s current research includes the optimization of Hosokawa’s Active Freeze Drying technology and the transition to a fully continuous process. “Early experiments operated at low temperatures and low pressures showed that it is possible to obtain an efficient freeze drying process. Every time the result was a lump-free, free-flowing product”, Imole explains. Active Freeze Dryers exhibit a much better heat transfer rate than convential tray freeze dryers, due to the continuous motion of the product. This shortens the drying process because the dried product no

Silo filling level indication VA with LED displays of the MOLOSvisu series Measuring devices, that measure the filling level in silos and bins, provide as a result often only an output signal. This signal is a certain current level that correlates with the measured filling level. In order to visualize these signals, so called indicating devices are needed. These include the LED devices of the MOLOSvisu series from MOLLET Füllstandtechnik, that illustrate the continuously measured filling levels with a measured value input of 0/4-20 mA in percentage. These LED devices ideally complement the level measurement devices of the MOLOSbob- and MOLOSwave series. Depending on the number of filling levels that shall be indicated, a corresponding amount of LED displays will be incorporated in the cabinet. Thereby a clearly arranged indication of all filling levels in the complete silo installations is enabled. As required special indicating devices can be used that additionally provide the possibility to switch relays on two separate filling levels

Ultra-Vario-Sonic Cleaning System in combination with ball cleaning system
Ultra-Vario-Sonic Cleaning System
in combination with ball cleaning system When using screening machines in a production process, efficient and exact screening is very important for the downstream processing steps. To achieve this, the mesh cloth used in the machine must not clog with the material to be screened. The blocking and clogging of the meshes is a common problem that occurs especially with difficult to screen and fine powders. This can lead to outages and production loss. To prevent this and to keep the mesh cloth clear, GKM Siebtechnik offers different cleaning systems depending on the characteristics of the product. A mechanical and economical process is the ball cleaning system. This involves the use of balls under the screen which knock against the mesh cloth and thereby displace particles that adhere. Another option for the cleaning of the mesh cloth is the use of an Ultra-Vario-Sonic System. This system delivers a much more efficient sieving action especially with very fine mesh sizes. The throughput rate increases significantly

Square silos help French flour milling family move forward
Square silos help French flour milling family move forward
Since many generations, you can find Minoterie Degrange, the flour mill of the Degrange family, at the beautiful shores of the Lac du Bourget. Forward-looking, the family invested in the mill, including in square silos. Progress as a tradition The many previous generations – Minoterie Degrange was established in 1704 – all left their mark on the flour mill, always looking to the future. Progress as a tradition, indeed. The current owner, Philippe Degrange, also has a forward-looking view in the blood. Plans were made to expand the mill. Additional process and storage capacity was required to face future challenges. In the immediate vicinity of the flour mill was however limited space available. The location itself, near the centre of Le Bourget-du-Lac town, proved to be an extra difficulty. There is a strict limitation in height and the municipality imposed that the building shape architecturally had to fit into the landscape. To top the challenges all off has
