Everyone needs them, everyone wears them Shoe manufacture made simple
Everyone needs them, everyone wears them
Shoe manufacture made simple The manufacture of footwear goes back a long way in history: Even 40,000 years ago humans felt the need to protect their feet from adverse outdoor conditions. Several hundred centuries passed however, before the modern aesthetic footwear of the present was developed and consequently also manifold procedures for the manufacture of shoes. Whereas in the pre-industrial era shoes were crafted by shoemakers, today shoe manufacture is largely an industrial process. Nevertheless, the manual aspect of production is still a significant part of the process. The manufacture process is composed of three key sections: development and design, manufacture of shoe uppers and the actual shoe production. First, a sketch of the shoe is created, pattern pieces for the various upper parts are made and the shoe lasts are manufactured. The last is the interior profile to which the uppers are shaped and joined to the sole of the shoe. Next the various parts for the uppers are cut and glued

For a perfect appearance BEUMER Group equips BEUMER fillpac R with ultrasonic sealing unit
For a perfect appearance
BEUMER Group equips BEUMER fillpac R with ultrasonic sealing unit The BEUMER Group, a solutions provider for complete packaging systems, is now offering the option to equip the BEUMER fillpac R bagging system with an ultrasonic sealing unit. The filled bags have an even better appearance, giving users a significant image advantage over competitors. The BEUMER fillpac R fills bags with bulk construction materials and industrial powders efficiently, gently and with the required throughput. It enables bags of different formats and types, such as upright and flat valve bags, to be filled with different materials ranging in structure from very fine to very coarse. To optimize their appearance, the BEUMER Group can equip the fillpac R with an ultrasonic sealing unit on request. This is how it works: During filling, a rubber sleeve is inflated on a special connector, preventing the escape of material. When the bag is full, it is automatically pulled from the connector and welded with ultrasound. Afterwards it is very clean and compact.

Next generation magnetic separators for food Height reduction and higher separation yield
Next generation magnetic separators for food
Height reduction and higher separation yield The Goudsmit Magnetics Group of Waalre (NL) introduces a new generation of magnetic separators. These are used to remove metal particles (>30 µm) from food like malt, rice, coffee, sugar, flour and cocoa. The Easy Clean flow magnet stands out from the competition due to its user friendly cleaning, improved flow and the high Gauss values of the bars. In contrast to previous designs, in which such magnets were fitted with two layers of thin (Ø25 mm) bars, the new design contains a single row of Ø50 mm thick bars. New measurement techniques, including simulations of magnetic fields and tests in the company’s own test centre, have shown that this results in a higher separation yield. This is because the thicker bars remain in contact with the magnetic particles longer. An additional benefit is the reduced height of the magnet as a whole, which means it requires less installation height. Moreover, a single row of bars results in improved product flow; which is particularly

Networked Sesotec Solutions in Friedrichshafen
OPC UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) presented for the first time Schönberg, November 2017 A well-attended FAKUMA 2017 is over, and also this year Sesotec convinced trade visitors with the metal separators presented at the trade fair. At the FAKUMA Sesotec not only maintained existing business relations with customers and partners but also was able to establish many new national and international contacts. The trade fair presence with the new ”Purity matters” corporate claim was a complete success. At the FAKUMA 2017 Sesotec presented metal separators of the PROTECTOR, RAPID PRO SENSE and GF series. These systems reliably detect and separate magnetic and non-magnetic metal particles even if they are enclosed in the granulate, and they thus ensure the quality of plastic products. Injection moulding machines, extruders, and blow moulding machines are protected against damage and clogging, the output is increased, and the amount of rejects is reduced. Metal separators contribute to the optimisation of processes, to the minimisation

Foundry places its trust in EIRICH
Foundry KUTES Metal in Turkey places its trust in EIRICH molding material preparation EIRICH has been able to deliver several molding material preparation systems. As well as improving the quality of the cast parts, this also helps to increase plant availability thanks to the comparatively low wear on the mixing tools. KUTES Metal has now also decided to opt for an EIRICH molding material preparation system for its new production line. Claybonded molding material is used primarily in the production of cast parts. There are a large number of parameters that impact on its suitability for use, including com-pactability, gas permeability and green strength. Only the use of optimized molding material can ensure fault-free cast parts. This means that the preparation of the molding material plays a central role in the process. In this preparation process, sand is mixed with bonding clay, additives and water. Through the addition of water, the bentonite swells up and exhibits adhesive strength. The water content has a large impact on the plasticity and therefore

Vacuum Conveying – Necessary Evil or Process Champion?
Vacuum Conveying – Necessary Evil or Process Champion?
Introduction Vacuum conveying or pneumatic transfer is often regarded as a necessary evil in processing. Why spend money on a system which does not alter the process or add value? The truth about vacuum conveying is quite the opposite, and a well-designed system can enhance a process, increasing throughput and efficiency, eliminating the risk of operator injury and exposure, and ensuring product containment. The Problem The typical integrated pharmaceutical granulation suite is perhaps the best example of these principles being optimally applied. The raw material is first loaded into a high-shear mixer / granulator. The dried granule is then passed through a second mill to remove agglomerates formed in the drying process, and then into bins or IBCs for onward movement to tabletting etc. The movement of the wet mass from high-shear mixer, through the wet mill and into the dryer bowl is most commonly achieved under gravity, but it is

Continuous dust monitoring with AirSafe Avoidance of Ex areas
Continuous dust monitoring with AirSafe
Avoidance of Ex areas Application A producer of dry mortar needs dry sand and trass for the production process. Both materials are dried in a hot gas heater at a temperature of 500 °C before they are admixed. The hot gas heater uses brown coal dust as combustion material. The brown coal dust, which is stored in a silo, is transported via a rotary valve in free fall to a distribution plate. From there it is blown by an airstream into the drying furnace. The rotary valve and the distribution plate are located in the silo housing. Extreme dust formation, caused by a leakage, can cause an Ex zone in this area. Therefore the plant operator looks for a prompt possibility to detect dust formation. The plant is shut down when a safety threshold is reached, which prevents the development of an explosive atmosphere. Process data Customer: Manufacturer of construction material (Germany) Product: Brown coal dust Installation place: Silo housing Function: Prevention of Ex

Magnet makes blasting grit suitable for reuse
Magnetic drum separator Goudsmit Magnetics recently introduced a magnetic drum separator for cleaning blasting grit. It separates contaminants, such as paint residue and rust, from magnetic blasting agent yet is also suitable for the separation of steel from non-steel blasting grit (such as ceramic material), which can then be used again. The blasting grit can become slightly magnetized during the separation and therefore block the blasting nozzle. To prevent this, a demagnetizer is used to remove the magnetism from the grit, thus preventing clumping of the blasting agent. After the grit has fallen through the demagnetization tunnel, it is sucked back through a hose to the blasting equipment where it can be used again. Use of a magnetic drum separator makes used grit suitable for reuse, extends its life and ensures that users do not blast clean surfaces with dirty grit. Magnetic drum separator The advantage of a magnetic drum separator is that the deferrization can take place in
