Packed fragrances provided a fresh breeze

Spray granulation, (micro) encapsulation and spray coating of flavors and fragrances

At the Berlin Congress of the European Professional Association SEPAWA, plant manufacturer Glatt Ingenieurtechnik presented case studies and project examples for processing, protecting and refining cleansing substances, stabilizers, enzymes, polymers, scent, flavoring and other active ingredients. Glatt’s fluidized bed and spouted bed plants are multi-talents in particle design: they granulate, coat, dry and functionalize powders and liquids in a single step.

In an industry that lives up to new standards, the fluidized bed and spouted bed technologies of the plant manufacturer Glatt Ingenieurtechnik offer unique opportunities: They contribute to optimizing raw materials for new formulations, help to ensure functions and protect valuable ingredients. They improve the solubility and make sure that ingredients are homogeneously distributed in particles with a broad, precisely adjustable grain size spectrum. In addition, enhanced substances can be compacted and dosed more safely and efficiently, they are more storage-stable and colors can be matched to the product design.
The way into the heart and into the shopping carts of consumers still leads over the nose – this was proven in many discussions about flavors and fragrances. How to master challenging processes in dealing with volatile substances that are difficult to process was demonstrated by means of project examples and case studies from Glatt’s technology center: For instance, a detergent based on liquid and powdery raw materials was processed by agglomeration into a homogeneous, long-term stable and highly soluble product. The company also presented granules consisting of previously liquid cleaning components, polymers and surfactants as well as enzyme granules which had been additionally functionalized with a spray coating. Microcapsules with enclosed essential oils can also be encased with a coating for targeted controlled release.
